274 - When Bad Financial Decisions Are the Best Life Decisions
Many financial decisions are destructive. However, we can't make every decision in life through the lens of money. If we do that, we're nothing more than a mathematical robot. Instead, we need to let finances be one of the factors while making decisions through the lens of a meaningful life. Sometimes, that involves making a decision that may be considered "bad."

271 - Cost Matters, But It's Only Half of the Equation
We're programmed to look at the cost when we purchase something. Is it a good price? Bad price? This is a great exercise, but dwelling on just cost causes us to make poor decisions. Why? Because cost is only half the equation. It's for this reason that a $50 attraction can be a ripoff but a $700 concert can be a bargain. In today's episode, host Travis Shelton drills down on the often missing piece of the equation: value!

Buying a house is the American dream, or so we're told. For some, buying a house is a good choice. However, for many, buying a house simply isn't the right decision....often turning into a nightmare. There are a lot of reasons at play, but many people are silently suffering on the heels of buying a house. They feel embarrassed....and stuck. In today's episode, host Travis Shelton walks through some questions to ask ourselves as we process the best next step if we regret buying that house.

We get a kick out of the "boy math" and "girl math" social posts. What makes them so endearing (and viral) is the discovery that many of us perform the same mental gymnastics to justify our behavior. In today's episode, host Travis Shelton shares some examples and explains why these psychological games can be harmful. There's a better way!

263 - Bringing Sanity Back to Tipping Culture: First, Remove the Guilt
We are a house divided when it comes to tipping culture. Cole hates what it has become, while Travis is still a big fan. However, our perspectives converge on one common theme: we must remove the guilt. At the center of this toxic culture is guilt. The external forces of guilt intentionally levied on us by businesses, and the internal forces of guilt we carry with us from transaction to transaction. In today's episode, host Travis Shelton discusses why removing guilt is a critical step to having a healthy relationship with tipping, and how to remove it in your own life.

262 - Credit Card Debt and the Myth of Irresponsibility: How Our False Perceptions Are Luring Us Into the Debt Trap
When we look at the millions of Americans in credit card debt, our typical reaction is to shake our heads and think to ourselves, "If they just would have been responsible, they wouldn't be in credit card debt." In today's episode, host Travis Shelton makes the argument we have it backward. Rather than people going into credit card debt out of irresponsibility, it's because they are trying to be responsible.....with the other areas of their life. Our responsibilities are often aligned, but they begin to collide when we experience financial stressors. Therein lies the trap.

Do you ever intend to finish that project, but drag your feet because it's just not good enough yet? In today's episode, host Travis Shelton discusses why we so often fall into the trap of perfection. Though we have the best intentions, we're practicing self-sabotage in so many ways. Instead, we should seek to simply move the ball forward and make a difference.....because it will never be perfect.

Do you remember what it was like learning to ride a bike? It's a series of frustration, falls, anger, tears, and blood. You fail, fail, and fail again, but then, like a light switch turning on, it's easy to ride a bike. In today's episode, host Travis Shelton discusses this topic and how it relates to so many areas of our work, money, and life. If we're willing to put the repetitions in, we're able to accomplish far more than we ever imagined. If we have that mindset, it can change everything!

257 - The Toxicity of Pay-It-Forward Streaks
You know how sometimes there will be a string of cars at Starbucks (or insert another retailer here), and people will repeatedly "pay it forward" to the car behind them by paying for the next vehicle's order? This is a controversial take, but we absolutely hate that phenomenon. In fact, we would dare say it's selfish and unloving. In today's episode, host Travis Shelton explains why pay-it-forward streaks are the opposite of generous and loving. On the flip side, we explore alternatives that actually cultivate generosity, love, and selflessness.
